2017: a rich and diversified programming
Festive programming for Montréal’s 375th anniversary !
Pointe-à-Callière is working feverishly, getting ready to celebrate 2017 in a big way, to mark both the 375th anniversary of Montréal and the 25th anniversary of the Museum. A highlight of the programming and festivities will most certainly be the showcasing of Montréal’s birthplace on May 17, 2017, with the inauguration of a new building housing the remains of Fort Ville-Marie, and focusing on the colonists who came to found Ville-Marie. On the same day, Canada’s first collector sewer, built in 1832, will open as a passageway to the new building, featuring a lighting display entitled Memory Collector. The Museum is also updating its permanent exhibitions, with certain components adding to its coverage of the city’s history, including a renewed presentation on The Great Peace of Montréal.
The Museum will be presenting a succession of major temporary exhibitions all year long beginning in November 2016: From the Lands of Asia: November 17, 2016 to March 19, 2017 Hello Montréal! Bell’s Historical Collections: February 17, 2017 to January 7, 2018 The Amazon: April 19 to October 22, 2017 Hockey, More Than Just a Game: Starting November 2017
Symbolic Encounters
The Museum is also preparing Encounters in New France, an immense spring market that is both festive and historical, produced by Pointe-à-Callière in collaboration with the Society for the Celebration of Montréal’s 375th Anniversary. The city’s daily routine under the French regime will be brought back to life by figures who played a part in history and through the legendary know-how of the First Nations. This entertaining outdoor event for the whole family will be presented free of charge in the area around the Museum and on Place Royale, from May 19 to 22, 2017.
Signature Events
You’ll meet, learn about, and have fun with friendly historical characters all year long at a variety of popular and always highly appreciated Pointe-à-Callière signature events: Port Symphonies, Jack O’Lantern: Halloween at Pointe-à-Callière, and Who is the Real Santa Claus? The Museum is also presenting a series of talks and cultural activities on topics relating to its permanent and temporary exhibitions. And finally, a variety of shows and events will be featured in an urban activity zone during the summer season, starting in May 2017.
