Honouring Montréal’s History

The Pointe-à-Callière Foundation and the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française announce the creation of the Paul-André Linteau Prize, celebrating excellence in writing on the history of Montréal. Generously created through a fund Mr. Linteau dedicated to the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation, the prize will be awarded in October 2025 at the IHAF conference.

An Exceptional Legacy

“I am deeply honoured by the creation of this prize in partnership with Pointe-à-Callière, the iconic location of Montréal’s founding. By highlighting and popularizing research on this fascinating city, this award encourages a deeper and more enriching understanding of our shared history,” said Paul-André Linteau, professor emeritus at UQAM.

Anne Élisabeth Thibault, Executive Director of Pointe-à-Callière, and Thomas Wien, President of the IHAF, salute his major role in the profession.

Paul-André Linteau Prize

There are two components to the prize: a $3,000 grant awarded for the best book and a $1,000 grant attributed for the best article. Applications must be submitted to the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française by April 30, 2025.

To award these prizes, the jury will evaluate the texts according to the following criteria:

  • the originality and impact of the work
  • the quality of the research and intellectual rigour
  • the relevance of the proposed arguments
  • the style and structure of the writing
