A fascinating fall at Pointe-à-Callière

Montréal, August 29, 2024 — Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal’s archaeology and history complex, announces a fall cultural season that promises to be as fascinating as it is mysterious. Starting on October 25, 2024, the Museum will unveil an all-new exhibition on witches—figures both captivating and multifaceted—in Witches – Out of the Shadows. It will follow the enthralling exhibition, Olmecs and the Civilizations of the Gulf of Mexico, which comes to an end on September 15, 2024. Now’s the last chance to see it!

NEW EXHIBITION COMING THIS FALL

WITCHES – OUT OF THE SHADOWS

At the Mariners’ House – National Bank Pavilion

Opening on October 25, the exhibition Witches – Out of the Shadows will offer a captivating exploration of the mythical and multifaceted figure of the witch. Shining a spotlight on this central figure in literature and popular culture, the exhibition reveals the troubled history of witches and delves into their mysterious realm. Between myth and reality, the experience will pull back the veil on these women whose many representations have spanned the centuries and redefined their power.

LAST CHANCE TO DISCOVER OLMEC TREASURES

OLMECS AND THE CIVILIZATIONS OF THE GULF OF MEXICO

Presented until September 15, this is the last opportunity to explore the popular exhibition Olmecs and the Civilizations of the Gulf of Mexico. This large-scale exhibition on the earliest known civilization in Mesoamerica immerses visitors in the fascinating world of the Olmecs through some 300 sculptures and authentic objects bearing witness to 4,000 years of history and cultural influence. Featuring masterpieces from the collections of a dozen Mexican institutions, this exhibition is an exceptional opportunity to explore this unique heritage under one roof.

STILL ON: MONTRÉAL, AT THE HEART OF OUR EXHIBITIONS

In keeping with its mission to foster an appreciation for Montréal’s past and present, Pointe-à-Callière is highlighting our metropolis in the following exhibitions:
The temporary exhibition The Heart and Soul of Saint-Henri celebrates the singular history of this area of Montréal, which started out as a village before becoming a town, and then a neighbourhood. The exhibition takes visitors through close to 350 years of history, tracing Saint-Henri’s economic development and the daily lives of its population.

In Old Fire Station No. 1, Montréal Capital City takes the public on a journey back to 1849, when Montréal was the capital of the Province of Canada; while just outside, on Place D’Youville West, the outdoor exhibition A Parliament Under Your Feet takes a look at a little-known period of history, exploring key zones of the archaeological site of St. Anne’s Market and the Parliament of the Province of Canada.

ABOUT POINTE-À-CALLIÈRE, MONTRÉAL’S ARCHAEOLOGY AND HISTORY COMPLEX

Inaugurated in 1992, on the city’s 350th anniversary, Pointe-à-Callière is today the largest archaeology museum in Canada and the busiest history museum in Montréal. Rising above a concentrated number of historic and archaeological sites of national significance—including the birthplace of Montréal—, the Museum has a mission to preserve its collections and to further knowledge, while showcasing and fostering an appreciation for Montréal’s archaeological and historical heritage. This mission is carried out through various activities focused on conservation, research, presentation, education, and inclusion, along with community initiatives benefiting both Montrealers and visitors to the city.
