Jack O'Lantern: Halloween at Pointe-à-Callière
For immediate release
Montréal, October 3, 2016 — Pointe-à-Callière invites visitors of all ages to come learn about the cultural origins of Halloween and related beliefs, with its popular Jack O'Lantern tour. It’s the perfect setting for scary stories! Children accompany Jack on a humorous and whimsical trip through an authentic archaeological site in search of some strange but friendly characters, who will share all the magic and enchantment of this great autumn celebration.
Who is this Jack?
Ghosts, witches, magicians ... they all turn out for Halloween, the time of year when the door opens between the mysterious world of ghosts and the world of the living. Jack O’Lantern is a young Irishman wandering in the world of the dead, looking for a lantern to light his way. With his intimate knowledge of the spirit world, he tells the children how to talk with ghosts and gives them some tips for dealing with the strange figures they will meet on their journey through the Museum.
Frightfully enriching encounters!
The young visitors head off on a quest through the remains in the Museum, looking for Jack and the twins Rucht and Friucht, who reveal the ingredients of a very special recipe. Next they come across a clever cat-like witch who gives them some advice on scaring off the scary monsters and ghosts that people their nightmares. Finally, the children share their discoveries and experiences with Gwynedd, a Druid magician who reveals the secret of light and courage, precisely the things that Jack needs.
Tours, led by an interpreter-guide, take about 45 minutes and will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 22, 23, 29 as well as October 30, between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. Last visit in English is offered at 3 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. in French.
The activity is for the whole family and is included with admission.
The Museum is subsidized by the city of Montréal.
