FREE ACTIVITIES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

In the heart of Old Montréal, take advantage of a wide range of free, family-friendly activities inspired by the current exhibition, Egypt. Three Millennia on the Nile.

Music, dance, storytelling, animal encounters, and participatory workshops are on the program, introducing you to the artistic and cultural traditions of Egypt, and more broadly, the Arab world.

A wonderful way to delve deeper into the age-old history of Egyptian civilization!

EXPLORE THE PROGRAM

Ongoing from 1 pm to 4 pm, in front of the Museum and in Place Royale.

INTRODUCTION TO HIEROGLYPHICS WORKSHOP
with the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities (SEEA)

Discover the main components of hieroglyphic writing and, using collage, learn how to spell a word or your name as the pharaohs did in ancient Egypt.

FLOWERING MUMMY MAKING WORKSHOP
with PAAL Partageons le monde

Make a little mummy filled with seeds that will begin to sprout as the days go by, in keeping with Egyptian traditions that celebrated the growth cycle of plants and the god Osiris’s power to give life.

PARTICIPATORY CIRCUS WORKSHOPS

Creating a funfair ambience, the company “Le Moulin à Vent Production” will set up its unique structures to give you an opportunity to play acrobat, regardless of your age. Try out the trapeze, tightrope walking, the hula hoop, and much more!

STROLLING CIRCUS

Two artists will stroll through the site, demonstrating several disciplines, using the German wheel, acrobatic bike, hula hoops, the unicycle, knife juggling, and skip rope.

“WAZO”: WHAT ARE BIRDS SAYING ABOUT US?

Three acrobats present an entertaining and moving experience, explaining the complex behaviours of the birds that fly above us all. Hand-to-hand, acrobatics, and contortions are on the menu!

INTRODUCTION TO THE SOUNDS AND RHYTHMS OF THE EAST
with the Centre des musiciens du monde and Julie Rousseau

A musical and sensory experience, introducing you to the stories, songs, and dances of Egypt and the East.

HISTORICAL ACTIVITY
with the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities (SSEA)

A creative activity combining presentation, explanatory illustrations and statuettes, masks and costumes, games, and the creation of your own divinity. Guaranteed fun!

ANIMAL ENCOUNTER with Éducazoo

Come meet, see, and touch about ten different animal and insect species—relating to Egypt—rescued by the Éducazoo sanctuary.

DRAW ON A PAPYRUS with Ateliers C

A fun way to test your drawing skills… on a papyrus! Choose the divinity you want to draw and give it a try, taking advantage of this colourful and festive guided activity.

In six different tales, explore Egypt through its myths, its animals, and its legends. Travel through the ages in the space of an afternoon!

EGYPTIAN MUSIC
with the Centre des musiciens du monde

Let the ancient melodies and rhythms of the Arab world carry you away, with a presentation on an iconic stringed instrument—the oud— with Mohamed Masmoudi and a performance of classical Arab singing, featuring music from the Egyptian Muwashshah repertoire, with Lamia Yared.

INTRODUCTION TO BELLY DANCING
with Al Helem, Cie de danse orientale

Nine dancers will introduce you to belly dancing—the legendary eastern dance form—performing a variety of numbers in this captivating dance style!

SAILBOAT MAKING
with Ateliers C

This creative activity requires precision, but the end result: your own model boat inspired by ancient Egyptian styles!

SUNDIAL MAKING
with Ateliers C

Come make, colour, cut out, and set up your own sundial! Then try it out by simulating the path of the sun.

Pssst... A family activity booklet is available for free in the Museum’s reception area and at the entrance to the exhibition.
