Historical archives, rare books and early maps

The Museum has a collection of 650 rare and old books relating to the history of Montréal or relevant to the themes of the temporary exhibits.

The collection also includes historical archives that regroup some 825 documents and that consist of old plans, engravings, original photographs and prints. In 2012, the Museum acquired a collection of antique Montréal postcards assembled by collector Christian Paquin.

Notarized deed dated April 11, 1746, regarding the sale of a house that had once belonged to Louis-Hector de Callière, former Governor General of New France, when he was Governor of Montréal. The purchaser was Paul-Raymond Jourdain, dit Labrosse, an organ maker and sculptor and one of the best-known craftsmen and artists of his day in New France.
