Presented by retired historian and university professor Patrick Salin, this conference titled Ces villes nord-américaines qui témoignent de l’Amérique française discusses North American cities that bear witness to French America.

Nowadays, French America is not limited to the heritage of New France before 1763. It includes other Canadian and American sites where actors of French civilization have left a significant mark, visible and sustainable, for everyone to admire today.

Retired university professor Patrick Salin travels the North American English-speaking continent and surveys the built heritage sites that bear witness to the French presence throughout Canada and the United States. Drawing on his travels to date, he presents sites in North American cities that reveal this authentic French influence in their origin, technical design, functional destination or commemorative significance. It’s a fact, French America is far more than New France’s tangible heritage.

The Société historique de Montréal lecture series is presented thanks to a partnership with Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Archaeology and History Complex.
