What is the Paul-André Linteau Prize?
The Pointe-à-Callière Foundation and the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française joined forces last year to create the Paul-André Linteau Prize, celebrating excellence in written works about the history of Montréal.
This prize, made possible thanks to a dedicated fund established by Mr. Paul-André Linteau, professor emeritus at UQAM, aims to recognize the thoroughness, originality, and quality of historical research on the city.
The prize has two components, a grant rewarding the best book and another awarded to the best article.
Janice Harvey
Winner of the 2025 Paul-André Linteau Prize (book category), Janice Harvey will present her book, Their Benevolent Design: Conservative Women and Protestant Child Charities in Montreal (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2024). The book offers a nuanced and insightful analysis of Protestant charities founded in 19th century Montréal, highlighting elite women’s often-overlooked commitment to child welfare and the fight against poverty.
All funds raised at this lecture will go to the Montréal History Fund.
