In Asia, headdresses play an important role in defining one’s identity—bearing witness to the status, customs, or beliefs of the people who wear them. At this lecture, coinciding with the presentation of the exhibition Headdresses from Around the World, The Antoine de Galbert Collection, you will learn about the origins and symbolism of certain key pieces of headwear worn in Asia—headdresses notably associated with the role of chief and with marriage.

Lecturer: Jianbing Nie is a lecturer at the Asian Studies Centre in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Université de Montréal. Jianbing Nie is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Headdresses from Around the World exhibition.
