Building the Memory of a City

The first true commemoration of the founding of Montréal took place in 1917. At that time, the basis was laid for a commemorative tradition that continues to this day.

However, this tradition is not immutable. Like the society that upholds it, it evolved and was transformed in response to major events of the 20th century.

Learn how the narrative of the founding of Montréal has been constructed over time.
