A contemporary dance performance
Pointe-à-Callière hosts a performance in the Festival Quartiers Danses! Experience “3 femmes”—a contemporary dance work by choreographer Pauline Gervais—in a unique setting!
Like Picasso’s cubist figures, three women dance a conceptual deconstruction of reality with grace and geometry, their bodies stretching to embrace the environment that surrounds them, their limbs intertwining like fluid brushstrokes. The three subjects join and detach like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle in a rhythm that is sometimes frantic, sometimes languorous. In a tableau that is both pictorial and animated, these three characters construct and deconstruct themselves, evoking different feminine archetypes. 3 Femmes… An ode to new forms and femininity… Trium Femina.
About the choreographer
A senior at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec, Pauline Gervais has worked with Ballet Ouest de Montréal, Lina Cruz, Allegra, and Johanne Madore, in addition to collaborating with visual artist Herman Kolgen. With her Pauline Berndsen Danse company, she has participated in the Festival Quartiers Danses (Montréal), DANTZAN TZAN Fest (Spain), Plateforme Danse (Corsica), Festival Vue sur la Relève (Montréal), Guelph Dance Festival (Ontario), Westfest (New York), the St-Ambroise Fringe Festival (Montréal), and the Festival de danse contemporaine de Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke). Fascinated with exploring visceral, fluid, and disarticulated aspects of the human body, she creates unique scenic worlds where various states of being coexist.
