Lecture – Collecting: A Passion for Heritage Preservation

Lecture – Collecting: A Passion for Heritage Preservation

Friday, March 11, noon
Free, live on Facebook

Did you know? Many of the pieces preserved and displayed at Pointe-à-Callière were donated by passionate collectors. You can now see some of these items in the new exhibition Favourites! Our Collections on Display, which features 400 objects from the Museum’s collections.

For this talk relating to the exhibition, Pointe-à-Callière will be speaking to Sorel-based collector Denis Saint-Martin, a Québec history enthusiast, whose reputation stretches well beyond Canadian borders. His collections include objects and manuscripts from the New France era and the Parliament of the United Province of Canada.

Join our guest speaker—along with Éric Major, manager of the Museum’s media library—to learn more about the role collectors play in safeguarding our heritage… and find out how a collector’s passion is born and continues to fuel his research.

What are some of our collector’s favourite items? You’ll get to see a few objects from Denis Saint-Martin’s collection that have been generously bequeathed to Pointe-à-Callière.

Come hear him share his fervent passion for history and heritage!

Speaker: Denis Saint-Martin, entrepreneur and seasoned collector from Sorel-Tracy, specializing in collections on the emergence of New France.
