Complementing our From the Lands of Asia exhibition, UdeM’s Les Belles Soirées et les après-midis presents a lecture entitled La culture japonaise d’hier et d’aujourd’hui (Japanese Culture of the Past and the Present).

Bernard Bernier, a professor in the Department of Anthropology at the Université de Montréal, will discuss the multiple influences on the development of Japanese culture: from Shinto to western culture, Buddhism, and the samurai. With a starting point dating back over 1,500 years ago, this lecture will provide a fascinating overview of the rich history of Japan, as well as a look at its contemporary culture.
