Working together to further education and outreach!

The Pointe-à-Callière Foundation is creating a philanthropic fund to promote access to Pointe-à-Callière and further the philanthropic efforts of the Museum’s founder and former Executive Director, Francine Lelièvre.

In leaving Pointe-à-Callière in 2020, after having helmed the institution since 1992, Francine Lelièvre left Montrealers with quite a legacy: the Montréal Archaeology and History Complex, a world-class museum that shines a spotlight on the city’s birthplace. To continue Ms. Lelièvre’s commitment, the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation is establishing a special philanthropic fund to support educational and outreach projects that will help students, as well as pupils in francization classes or from underprivileged areas.

FRANCINE LELIÈVRE, PHILANTHROPIST AND EDUCATOR
The Francine Lelièvre Education Fund reflects the values that have always been at the heart of Ms. Lelièvre’s actions: education and access to culture. It also reaffirms her attachment to philanthropy, as it was Ms. Lelièvre herself who established the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation in 1993. In 1992, Ms. Lelièvre set up a unique school program on the history of Montréal. Today, Pointe-à-Callière’s school program reaches tens of thousands of young people every year. Students are given a chance to tour the Museum and to take part in activities that have been specially designed for teaching establishments, day care centres, and day camps. Led by qualified guides who accompany the students and educators, the program’s activities aim to enrich the tour experience, to entertain, amuse, and inform our adults of tomorrow in a museum environment created especially for them. Francine Lelièvre also established Pointe-à-Callière’s Archaeological Field School, through a partnership with the Université de Montréal—a school for university-level students, which focused on the birthplace of Montréal, from 2000 to 2013.

PEDAGOGICAL AND SOCIAL OBJECTIVES
In a social context that has been made more fragile by the pandemic, in which isolation has exacerbated several social challenges, the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation hopes to meet several objectives with this Fund:

  • Develop innovative educational programs
  • Support teaching and outreach projects for pupils and students in francization classes or from less privileged environments
  • Encourage a spirit of sharing and community, as well as diversity and inclusion

TOTAL OBJECTIVE: $250,000

The Pointe-à-Callière Foundation will lend its support to the Museum’s education and outreach projects. These projects will be developed together with teaching establishments in Montréal, throughout Québec, or elsewhere in the country. The projects benefiting from the Foundation’s financial aid will be announced at the beginning of each year.

A tax receipt will be issued for all donations of over $30.
Thank you for supporting Pointe-à-Callière!
